If you can already swim 200m freestyle without stopping you don't need to do the course first.
If you can't swim 200m continuous freestyle, or really haven't swum for a long time, struggle with your breathing, don't really know what your arms and legs are doing then the course is the best place to start.
Our Swim FUNdamentals course provides the opportunity for you to understand the Swimming Women approach to swimming and give yourself the time and space to focus on your stroke before joining the regular mermaid sessions.
We believe learning is a continuous process that should be fun. As a result we use many different skills and drills to help you be the best swimmer you can. It really helps to learn these different drills during the course.
The best class to come to is the one you can fit into your week. Having said that your swimming ability may be better suited to different classes:
If you are new to Swimming Women the best place to start is with a 6 week Swimming FUNdamentals course. We have taught many different people over the years with varying levels of fear, (from petrified to let me at it) and ability (I can't let go of the side in the shallow end to I swam for Australia). We are confident we can teach you something new and help you on your swimming journey.
Our aim is to help you feel comfortable and enjoy yourself. We will always be honest after watching you swim to advise if a different class would be better for you.
Mermaids and Swim Men
These classes are for you if you can swim more than 200m. the sessions vary from day to day, week to week.
Mermaid classes are for women only and Mermaid and Swim Men classes are mixed.
We will help you improve your technique, learn new drills, work towards an aquatic goal or simply swim yourself to a better you as you work on your fitness and endurance.
Ocean Swim
At varying locations these mixed classes are invigorating. Swimming with the elements is always fabulous. Ocean Swims are more for fitness and improving your open water skills than stroke technique. Comfortably swimming more than 400m in a pool is a requirement for these classes.
Swim Girls
For any girl in school years 6 and up. Its about fun, fitness, girl power keeping active and healthy.
Private Class
Sometimes you can't wait for the start of a course, or prefer one to one nature of learning. We can organise a private lesson or video analysis to really help you improve your swimming and if you are new, teach you enough to help you feel comfortable in the classes.
When doing the FUNdamentals course you stick with your group for the same session at the same time each week.
Once you have completed the course you are a mermaid, and can swim in any session you like. You can swap and change sessions, days and times and even the number of times a week you swim. Its all up to you.
Yes - Once you have completed the FUNdamentals course, you are a mermaid, and can swim in any session in any location.
Swimming Women are a friendly bunch and you will be welcomed where ever you swim.
The best way to get fitter is to get started. Just make sure if you haven't exercised in a long time and or have any health concerns, that your Doctor gives you the all clear.
At swimming women we really emphasise swimming at your pace. If you need more rest, take it. We want you to feel safe and comfortable so you have the best opportunity to learn. If you want to be pushed - we can do that too.
Just turn up - your body and mind will thank you.
