MARGARET RIVER OCEAN SWIM
IMPORTANT RACE UPDATE
CHANGE OF DATE
Sunday 15 Jan 2023
We have been notified that a total fire ban has been called for tomorrow (Saturday) by the Shire.
The shire event permit states that swimmers must park at Gnarabup Oval to reduce beach parking issues.
The total fire ban and vehicle movement ban means cannot be driven on Gnarabup Oval.
Subsequently the swim will be one day later on Sunday 15/1.
We apologise for the inconvenience and have been working tirelessly with the Shire and DFES to find a way forward and still run the event. Having the race on Sunday is the best compromise we can achieve within the legislative bush fire act framework and Shire rules.
IMPORTANT *PARKING FOR THE EVENT*
Due to Shire concerns about capacity at Gnarabup during this period please park on Gnarabup Oval, car pool, or get dropped off by someone. Thanks.
The race will start on the beach next to the first stairs north side of Gnarabup bay. Swimmers will go off in waves based on your nominated entry time from the beach.
This will allow us to get the speedier fish and those that want to race moving first, enabling a more leisurely event for the remainder of the field
1KM loop course. Starting from the beach swimmers will proceed out to a turning body, turning right (north) for approx 400m before turning right for 50m and then right again to proceed south back to start/finish line.
