Swimming Fast in the Pool

In Uncategorized by Charlotte OBeirne

Last week I talked about Pool Swimming competitions. The only real way to do this as an adult and not feel like you are gatecrashing kids sport is to do competitions run by Masters Swimming and in 2027 there its lots happening close to home.

I am going to Budapest in July 2027 to compete at the World Masters Swimming Championships and the Australian National Championships are in Perth in April 2027 so I’d love people to join me pool side. I wanted to give you a heads up with how you can do it and how it works in case you might be keen.

To Swim at Masters you need to be a member of a club. Until now I have joined the Masters WA club for people with no club called Swim West Masters. We are however going to create our own new club using the Swimming Mermaids Association as the entity that has a team name for pool events that we race under.

What’s in a name?

I want the entity to be for anyone in the South West, or further afield to have a place to take part where we can come together and do relays and pool competitions together. You won’t have to train with us to be part of the club simply pay the membership and enter the events under the club name.

We are setting up the Club

The Club is being created with Masters Swimming Australia and once thats established you will able to enter any competition you want. There is one in Mandurah on 1/11 and there will be more in Perth before Nationals in April.

Information on Nationals can be found here and information on Worlds can be found here:

For Worlds You need a qualifying time but for Nationals and local competitions you don’t and you don’t even have to dive in if you don’t want to!

BUT AM I FAST ENOUGH?

Thats the million dollar question right! So Masters Australia has a place where you can see how fast people are in your age group from previous years. You can filter the results to WA, Short course pool 25m (thats what we train in) and search by gender and age category. You race the age you are at the end of December each year. But to be honest worst case is you come last and someone always has to do that. We can never know if we will win or lose but we can choose if we want to try something new and potentially challenging to keep us young right!! You can check the portal here

I will create more info here on how to enter etc once the ‘club’ is established in the mean time, hit me with your best team names!
