Swimming Women is proud to present the 2017 Margaret River Ocean Swim to be held on Saturday January 21st at 8am in Gnarabup Bay.
There are many ocean swims around the Australian coast all of varying lengths and challenges. The aim of the Margaret River Ocean Swim is to encourage people to give swimming in the ocean a go and to enable some of the regions amazing swimmers to go head to head for line honours with visiting tourists.
Margaret River is a very special town with many drawn here by their love of surfing and the coast. By association many of these people are strong swimmers. At the other end of the spectrum there are many people who missed the swimming bug when they were younger and are taking the sport up later in life. This ocean swim is for all of those people to come together and challenge themselves.
Line honours will only be awarded to the first male and female across the line not wearing a wetsuit or using swimming aids such as fins or a mask and snorkel, however less experienced swimmers are welcome to take part using what ever it takes to get them swimming around the course.
Entries are being taken on the day only with registrations open from 7-7.45am. A safety and event briefing will occur at 7.50am with the race due to start at 8am. A registration tent will be up on the beach, the opposite side of the Boat Ramp to the White Elephant Beach Cafe.
Thanks to the generosity of the major event sponsor The White Elephant Beach Cafe and in collaboration with the Shire of Augusta Margaret River Recreation Centre the event is set to be a fantastic way to start any Saturday morning.
Entires cost $20 and include an awesome swim hat:
