Margaret River Ocean Swim 2018
You can dream of perfect weather for any event you are hosting and in all areas the Margaret River Ocean Swim superseded expectations.
178 fabulous people took part in the 8th edition of the Margaret River Ocean swim of which 27 were under 18, inspired by their parents love of water. It truly is wonderful to see whole families taking part in an event together, keeping fit and having fun.
For many it was the first time they had taken part in a swimming event, let alone swam 1km in the ocean, in one go! They were supported and encourage out in the water by the presence of water safety including the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter and Perry Hatchett of Water Patrol Australia,
The first person across the line was Tom Webber in a time of 12:32.2 closely followed by John Andrews just 3 seconds behind and Stefan Shulz in third. The ladies were just 5 seconds behind with the super speedy Tara Smith from Margaret River finishing in a time of 13:04.7 seconds, followed by Dunsborough’s Nicola Heyes and Busselton’s Rhonda Pearsall in third.
In order to make the event not just about being the fastest, competitors were encouraged to guess the time it would take to swim the 1km course with prizes were awarded to the person closest to their nominated time. Sharon Bucat was closest finishing just 3 seconds outside her estimated time whilst the Swimming Women Mermaids won the team award followed by the Prevelly Penguins in second being chased at the heels by the fabulous youngsters of Margaret River Swim Squad.
